Close to my heart - Wetnose Animal Rescue Center

I am definitely of of those "Animals aren't pets, they're part of the family" kind of people and it makes me so mad when people abuse, neglect or just abandon animals for whatever reason. Now I don't want this post to be a rant about how the world needs to change etc. because that will do no good. I want to bring Wetnose Animal Rescue Center to your attention, to show there are people out there that are doing a very difficult job and need our support.

Wetnose realised, in 1999, a safe haven had to be opened for precious animals where they stand a chance of getting a new loving home. Wet Nose is a registered non-profit organisation devoted to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of lost, abandoned and neglected animals. They are a right to life organisation and do not believe in euthanasia, except in the most extreme cases. They try and re-home all the animals into loving homes after they have been rehabilitated and sterilized. 

To date they have successfully re-homed over 20 500 dogs, 1 700 cats, donkeys, a goat, horses, guinea pigs, pigs and rabbits.

What I really love about Wetnose, is that they do not put their animals down just because they have not found a home yet. Some Wetnose residents wait up to 2 years to be adopted. 

Here are some of their recent rescue's:

Cold starving mommy cat and babies left in the rain to fend for themselves.

"Highway" left in the road after being hit by a car.

"Jumbo" was rescued after being terribly neglected.

"Lally" was rescued from a township where she was starving and neglected.

This injured porcupine was rescued by Wetnose and taken to Pretoria Zoo where it will receive treatment and recover

You can help

1. The best way you can help is by adopting a very special animal that will become part of your family (Our family has). There is a constant need for open kennels to home new rescues so if you're looking at getting a new pet, visit Wetnose in Bronkhorstspruit, before going to a pet shop.

2. Wetnose does not get any government or municipal funding and rely mainly on donations from the public. Here are a few things that are currently on their much needed wishlist.

Kennels, Tin food for cats & dogs, Black industrial bags, Washing Powder (to wash blankets), Raw hide or any doggy chews, Blankets, Bowls (Food & water), Dry dog food, Cat Food, Hose pipes, Spray bottels, Hose fittings, Gum boots (sizes 5-10), Industrial Brooms.

Office paper, Ink cartridges (contact Susan for model & makes 013 932 3941), BIC pens (Black & Blue), High lighters, Scissors, Standard Staples, Waltons Optiplan files, Multi Plugs, Extension Cords. Inspectorate, Toolbox - Large (storage for equipment), Rope (not nylon), Hammer, Pliers, Side Cutter.

Charity Shop (Books/anything old or new that you dont use or need anymore that we can sell or use at the shelter)

3.You can make a donation via sms. Sms the word "Nose" to 40131 to make a donation of R20 (It will be deducted from your airtime/billed to your cellphone account). I have done this quite a few times and I really don't miss all those R20's. Please help out by sending the simple sms!!
